Native BitTorrent for macOS

Torrents,
without the clutter.

A native macOS client for people who actually manage their downloads. Two columns, tags, bookmarks and a lock screen — in one quiet window.

Why BeeTorrent

Built around the way you actually use a torrent client.

Not a web page in a window. A focused macOS app with the controls you reach for every day.

The BeeTorrent difference

Two columns. Zero tab-switching.

Keep the list on the left and the details on the right. Select a torrent and inspect files, peers, trackers and pieces without losing your place.

Native, not wrapped

A lightweight Rust shell and a C++ libtorrent engine. No browser runtime doing a desktop app’s job.

Tags instead of folders

Up to eight tags per torrent. Filter across them, combine filters, and keep one torrent in several contexts at once.

Bookmarks that remember

Save magnets and .torrent files with notes and folders. Keep everything organised and in sync across Macs.

A lock for prying eyes

PIN-lock the whole app or just bookmarks. Downloads keep running while the window is locked.

Diagnostics that explain

Safe mode, quarantine, missing-data detection and clear recovery actions instead of silent failures.

The two-column workspace

Your whole session, side by side.

Most clients make you open a separate inspector, a modal or a new window. BeeTorrent keeps the context in view, so a quick check never turns into a detour.

  • Files with per-file priority and progress
  • Peers with client, country, speed and progress
  • Trackers and a live piece map
  • Limits, recheck and streaming link — right where you need them

Bookmarks

A shelf for the downloads you’re not ready for.

Save magnets and .torrent files now, start them later. Folders keep the shelf tidy; notes keep the context. And your bookmarks can follow you to every Mac.

Folders that make sense

Nested folders and drag-and-drop. Organise by project, season or whatever fits — move a bookmark without opening a dialog.

A note for every torrent

Audio language, checksums, why you saved it — attach context to the bookmark and see it in the inspector.

Magnets are first-class

A bookmark lives even before metadata arrives. BeeTorrent fetches the details when you start the download.

Bookmark sync

One shelf. Every Mac.

Sync bookmarks through a folder your cloud client already handles. No BeeTorrent account, no server of ours, no extra subscription.

  • Works with iCloud Drive, Dropbox, Google Drive, OneDrive and Nextcloud
  • Folders, notes, renames and deletions travel together
  • Conflicts resolve by modification time — the newest edit wins
  • Downloaded files and .torrent caches stay on each Mac

A closer look

Quietly detailed.

Dark by default, with a light theme when the sun is out.

Privacy, not encryption

Lock the window. Keep the downloads.

The PIN is a privacy screen for anyone who walks up to your Mac — not disk encryption. The background daemon keeps downloading while the interface is locked. Forgot the PIN? Reset it without losing a single torrent.

  • App-wide or bookmarks-only lock
  • PBKDF2-hashed PIN, stored locally
  • Downloads continue while locked

FAQ

Questions, answered.

Still curious? Write to support

Is BeeTorrent free?
Yes. No account, no ads and no telemetry. The app is a native macOS client; its source code is currently private.
Does the PIN encrypt my files?
No. The PIN hides the interface from someone at your Mac — it is not disk encryption. Downloads and data stay on disk as usual.
What happens if I forget my PIN?
Choose “Forgot PIN?” on the lock screen. It resets the PIN without deleting torrents, bookmarks or downloaded files.
Why does macOS warn about an unidentified developer?
The build is ad-hoc signed while Apple Developer notarization is being arranged. On first launch, right-click the app and choose Open. Future releases will be notarized.
Why does macOS mention Intel components?
Universal builds contain both Apple Silicon and Intel code. Choose the Apple Silicon build to avoid the Rosetta notice on an M-series Mac.
Where are my files and settings stored?
Torrents download where you choose. Settings, bookmarks and the PIN hash live in ~/Library/Application Support/BeeTorrent. Nothing is uploaded.
Does it support magnet links and .torrent files?
Both. Paste a magnet link, drop a .torrent file into the window, or open one from Finder.
